Coming back here felt like a pilgrimage… I remember feeling so chic and grown up when I first walked in the door twenty years ago and bought my first fancy dress for my sister’s wedding. Shopping for clothing is not my favorite way to spend time. However, Darryl’s is always a rewarding experience. I’ve been shopping in this neighborhood boutique since the early 90’s. I needed a dress for a special occasion and that was the beginning of my “love affair” with this shop. Darryl and his staff are always helpful and pleasant. I never walk out with just the one thing that I went in for. He has an eye for fashion that is not only current, but well constructed and timeless, and suitable for a large range of clientele. I’d be lost without this shop. Over the years, this has been my go-to for quality and a positive experience. Shopping for clothes is no longer dreaded, but actually fun.

I went to Darryl’s looking for a snazzy suit to wear in homage to the subject of my forthcoming book about a 19th Century surgeon, feminist & cross dresser (I Could Not Do Otherwise: The Remarkable Life of Dr. Mary Edwards Walker if you’re interested). I'm so happy to have stumbled upon Darryl's Boutique. In a huge city where clothing stores are often unfriendly and snobby, Daryl's feels like shopping in your spectacularly-dressed best friend's closet. The staff is kind and oh so helpful. I was in New York on vacation from Portland, Oregon and stumbled upon Darryl's boutique on Amsterdam Avenue. What a lucky day! Darryl and his assistant were warm and welcoming and provided several wonderful options that fit my style. I LOVED the clothing choices offered in the store. The items were unique but classy and stylish. I had a hard time choosing what to buy with limited suitcase space for my trip home. Can't wait to travel to NY again and stop by for a visit. I just saw that there is an online option that I will continue to browse in the meantime. Highly recommend stopping by!

Darryl's Boutique in the upper west side is a gem! After looking all over for a fun summer dress I happened past Darryl's Boutique and figured I'd looked everywhere else, no one carried my size (a very flirty 12), I might as well give it one last shot... and I walked out with 3 beautiful, well-made dresses, all of them fit, and one of them even had pockets. The only reason I didn't walk out with more was because my husband was waiting outside! I've gotten two compliments on one of the dresses already. Darryl was friendly and helpful, and I will be back. Maybe tomorrow!

Darryl is a fantastic shop owner. He offers great advice, if you want it (I need good clothing advice, so it's a gift). He has a great selection, and he can quickly present suggestions based on your description of any event. He sets a great tone for a comfortable shopping environment, even to the shopping averse! Highly recommend.
